Alexander Martin

Director of Ironwood Urban Forestry Consulting Inc., Alexander Martin is an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Board Certified Master Arborist (PR-5346B), ISA Qualified Tree Risk Assessor, Tree Care Industry Association Certified Treecare Safety Professional (CTSP), and trained in integrated pest management and pesticide application. He holds a Bachelor of Urban Forestry with Honours and a minor in Urban Forest Management from the University of British Columbia. 

He has focused his research on human dimensions of forest disturbance, publishing widely in peer-reviewed journals, reviewed industry journals, and public media. As a recognized contributor to his field, Alexander has served as a guest editor for special issues of peer-reviewed journals focusing on human interactions with forest ecosystems.

 

His research and service to arboriculture and urban forestry has been recognized internationally. In 2021, he was awarded the International Society of Arboriculture's Millard F. Blair Award for Exceptional Contribution to Practical Arboriculture in recognition of his contributions to arboriculture and urban forest management.

Outside of professional practice, Alexander volunteers as the Co-Chair of the Canadian Tree Research Education and Endowment Fund, a national non-profit supporting education and research in arboriculture and urban forestry in Canada. He also volunteers on several industry committees, including the Pacific-Northwest Chapter of the ISA's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and the Governance and Culture Task Force. He also serves on conference planning committees for relevant industry events.
